An Indian Cricket Fan in Pakistan - Day 2

The 2004 cricket series between India and Pakistan allowed a large number of Indians to travel across the border. One such visitor has allowed me to publish his travelog on this website. Day 1 of his journey was quite a revelation.

Here is Day 2 of the three day series.

Day 2

Next day early morning after breakfast, my friend and I went to the Lahore Gymkhana to play Golf. It is a nice golf course. We played nine holes and came back by about 11.00 o’ clock. Aslam Bhai, our guide was waiting for us at the hotel and we left to do some shopping. The first place we went was Auriya market which is specialized in ladies garments. We picked up some ladies suits. Like in India, there is heavy bargaining and you can bring down the cost to literally half the quoted price.

We saw the Anarkali Bazaar which reminds one of Karol Bagh. Later we went to the Liberty market and I picked up a Lahori Salwar suit for myself. Incidentally, almost 90% people wear the Salwar suits as you may have noticed Imran Khan during the commentary.

Liberty market is like our South Extension in Delhi. Lunch was at a fast food joint called ‘Salt n Pepper’. There were more McDonalds and KFCs in Lahore than there are in Delhi. Later we went to Jahangir’s Tomb which is on the outskirts of the city. It is again in a very bad shape with snakes and langoors from the nearby jungle visiting quite frequently. Jahangir had a very beautiful wife Noor Jahan and her mausoleum is also nearby.
