“I cannot believe that the Lord of the Rings didnt make it!”
It didn’t make it because it’s a fantasy film, not science fiction. The book deals with SF exclusively. Fantasy films (I suspect) will have their own book.
I, Robot ? i wonder if asimov’s best (The Foundation Trilogy) was made into a movie?
Some in my list:
Fifth Element (not so much for the science. The art work was excellent.)
Serenity (ground-breaking)
Solaris (mind-boggling, literally. Soderbergh is a class apart.)
Over here from Atanu’s. Looking at your list, I am compelled to point out two very important omissions - La Jetee by Chris Marker (the inspiration for 12 Monkeys - once you see it, you’ll realize why any comparison to 12 Monkeys is totally meaningless) and Stalker by Tarkovsky. In fact these are the only two sci-fi flicks in my top 10 movies of all time (not that I have a list, but if I ever did………….)
Cheers.
