I would have thought that in this age of cheap cellphone service, more Americans would have dropped the landline but was surprised that only 4% of Americans have their wireless phone as their only phone.
I have not had a landline since 2001. Most of my calls were to and from Rupali, my gf of 8 years and my wife of 2. We both always have had the same service provider and hence free calling to each other. Interestingly, I have also always had the most popular service amongst my friends. In grad school it was Sprint with almost all my friends also on Sprint. After moving to Southern Indiana, we moved to Cingular and found that a bunch of people either have Cingular or Verizon here.
I do have a Skype handset using the Actiontec Internet Phone Wizard but have found that I haven’t used it as much as I had thought I would.
Life has been pretty smooth without a landline. I have simply not seen any need for it.
