A partial solar eclipse is occuring as I write this post. It will be at the eclipse maximum in my hometown, Mumbai in India at ~ 6:53 am IST [source: NASA Solar Eclipse Table].
Solar eclipses are attributed with mythical properties and bad omens in India. The Indian media seems to be fueling this quackery. This video clipping on CNN-IBN spends a major chunk of time on the superstition itself and almost none on the debunking. Take special note of the list of actions that are likely to get you into trouble today.

That the world still believes in such quackery is sad, it is even worse when modern media outlets that rely on science and knowledge of physics/astronomy on their very existence (CNN-IBN is a satellite TV network) spread such misinformation.
