PZ Myers writes about techniques that seem to be useful in arguing with creationists. It will be a useful exercise to determine how such ideas can be positively applied when arguing against people who believe in astrology.
The key things to do, according to PZ Myers are:
- Don’t get bogged down in detail
- Try to make points that anyone in the audience can understand
In other words, use simple language and simplify the argument down to clean facts that can be understood by everyone. This is rarely done by astrologers who try to include as much mumbo-jumbo in their descriptions as they can, thus creating an aura of superficial superiority and mysticism around themselves.
