Just found out from Harini that one of the very popular TV game shows in India recently had a numerologist as a special guest on their show. It is absolutely baffling how some dude who makes his living selling lies and mis-information to the public can get such mass exposure (the show has an estimated reach of almost a million people!) and good, informative science doesn’t feature anywhere on the Indian media radar.
I’ve heard plenty of bragging stories about how India has PhDs at the helm of government affairs, with a scientist President and an economist Prime Minister. But what use is all of that when such quackery like numerology, astrology, palmistry etc still reign supreme in the mass media?
One small but potentially significant way out is to spread and encourage more independent initiatives like The Scian Interviews.
